Valentine’s Day always gets me wanting for some soft, delicious sugar cookies! So, each year I try to whip up at least two batches of these before the day passes us by.  So, we thought we’d pass along this favorite recipe to you.

This easy sugar cookies recipe is going to be your new favorite! They are a soft, fluffy cookie with a hint of almond. I wish I had some right now. haha. I guess it’s time to get baking.

Here’s what you’ll need for the softest sugar cookies:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup butter (softened)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp almond extract (you can use regular vanilla if you aren’t a fan of almond)
  • 6 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup butter (softened)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 1/4 cup milk
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Beat sugar, sour cream, butter and eggs for 2 minutes.
  3. Then, add dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. Mixture will still be sticky.
  4. Cover and chill for 20-30 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle flour on your work surface and roll out dough to about 1/4 inch thick. (Note: the less flour you use, the softer your cookies will be.)
  6. Bake 8-10 minutes.
  7. Frosting Instructions:
  8. Cream your butter until fluffy.
  9. Add powdered sugar and beat until well blended.
  10. Add remaining ingredients and beat on high until frosting is fluffy.


I’m telling you, these cookies are one-of-a-kind!  They will make the perfect gift for just about anyone.  Put some on a plate and wrap them up with a bow and you are sure to make someone feel very loved.
